Restoration Pictures of My Canary Yellow 73 Monte
These are the various stages of the disassembly and reassembly of my favorite car. |

This is the before pic. and also what I hope it looks like when finished

Right Rear Quarter Removed
The right rear quarter had been hit at one time and was loaded with bondo. This caused it to hold moisture and it rotted from the inside out. I removed the old quarter and inner well. |

Another view of quarter removed
The inner wheel well was also pretty rotten and needed to be replaced. The donor car in the back ground was t-boned, but was also a southern car. I cut alway the outer quarter where it got hit and removed the inner well by drilling out the factory spot weld. I then reattached it to my car at these welds pionts. I was able to find a new replacement quarter in Iowa and installed it. It was an aftermarket quarter but is seamed under the Landau top, so there is only filler at that seam. |
The floor was bad from being stored in a damp building.
I also needed to remove the floor from my donor car. I did this the same way as the wheel well, by drilling out the spot welds. Getting it in to my car was the fun part. This was a one piece floor and fairly large. I had to remove the back window and put the floor in, slide it under the dash then down into place and reweld all the factory locations. |

New Quarter
This pic shows the new quarter and wheel well replaced. Rear window was removed to allow for the floor to be inserted. Another 73 Monte in back ground that I just purchased. |
A Coat of Many Colors
The front clip was taken off one of my donor cars. Mine had a couple of dents and small holes at the bottom. This clip was near perfect. I also needed the core support that came with this clip. |

Bad Quarter Panel
This is the last piece I need to replace. I have a good inner wheel well from a donor car, but still need a quarter panel. Once this is replaced, the body work is done. |
Rear View
The trunk lid came from Kentucky. A friend of mine was down there and happened to mention to someone that he was looking for a 73 lid for me. This persons family had a junk yard and a couple of 73's for parting out. The next day he showed up with the trunk lid. All I know is this junk yard is on the backroads of Louisville, Kentucky. If anyone knows where this yard is please let me know. |

Restoring my Brown 73
I'm still trying to locate a quarter for the yellow 73 above so I decided to dig into my other 73 and get it ready to drive. I started to sand the car down and found alot of checking in the paint so I decided to do it right and liquid strip the whole car. |
There was the usual rust spots on the lower end of this Monte. I needed to make a patch for the lower front fender and lower rear quarter in front of rear wheel. I also had to fix alot of small dings, but it is still a good solid car. The truck in the background has extra Monte bumpers stacked on the hood. |

You can see the 2 patches I put in the fender and quarter. I was lucky that I didn't need to reshape the wheel well. |
Passenger side almost stripped completely. That is my oldest son Sandy standing by the car. Sandy and my 2nd oldest son Nick spent 2 days with liquid stripper and a DA removing the old paint while I was at work so I could get the rest of the body work done on my days off. |

If you look close you can see Nick hiding by the windshield removing paint on the driver side. |
Sandy and Nick each took 1 side of the car and did a good job of removing all the old paint. They want to ride in this Monte as bad as I do. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP SANDY AND NICK. |
