Passenger Door
Thanks again to my sons. They are doing a great job and saving me alot of time by stripping the old paint for me. This shows the small area on the front fender where I had to cut out rust and weld in a patch. Just needs a little sanding now to finish the bondo. |
Driver Side Fender
This fender had a bigger hole in it so I had to cut and weld a bigger patch in. Now just some sanding to the bondo left to do.

Driver door and Quarter Panel
The doors are really solid on the car and I only needed a small patch on the lower front of the quarter panel. A little more stripping to do to the old paint and some sanding and metal prep then paint. |
All Primed
I finally got everything primed and the weather looks good so it's time to paint the car.

Getting Ready to Paint
|
Fresh Paint
Finally got a chance to paint this 73. I chose a mid to late 80's Flame Red Metalic paint. The top is pretty dirty in this picture, with years of dirt and some over spray from the paint work. As you can see in the pics. below I cleaned the top. I used D&L hand cleaner. Just use a little on your fingers and rub it in firmly. It will take off just about any type of grime on your top and it also conditions the material due to having lanolin in it. D&L will not dry out you vinyl like regular cleaners will. It also did a great job on the interior.

Bakin' in the Sun
I painted the car on Sunday June23,2002. On Monday I pulled it out of the barn to let the paint bake in what little sun we are getting. |
Driver Side
The pictures are coming out a little dark due to a lack of Sun and the humidity or it could be I haven't figured out my new camera yet!

Rear Shot
This is the part of the 73 Monte that seperates it from the other 2nd generation Montes and makes it my favorite. |

Almost Finished
I'm almost done with the outside, just a few more pieces of chrome to install. This pic shows my new tires. 235/60R-15 on the front and 275/60R-15 on the rear with the factory Turbine wheels. I am still looking for the trim rings.
